Oslo Screen Festival is an event organized in the year of Cultural Diversity
2008 in Norway. Screen focuses on innovative and experimental works within the
field of video art, and this year encourages artists and filmmakers to
approach the theme of alterity / identity in their works.

The festival is going to take place at the Cinematheque in Oslo and other
places around the city on October 24th, 25th and 26th.

4e édition de la biennale d’art contemporain de Bourges
du 14 au 23 novembre 2008

Le Panorama de la jeune création se propose de donner un aperçu significatif de la variété des recherches menées aujourd’hui en France par de très jeunes artistes encore peu reconnus du milieu professionnel. Il intéresse aussi bien le public berruyer, qui peut ainsi se faire découvreur de la jeune création, que le public spécialisé qui y trouve l’occasion d’un repérage de nouvelles tendances. Il permet à une quarantaine de jeunes artistes, pour la plupart récemment diplômés des écoles d’art françaises, de se rencontrer, de confronter leurs travaux, et de nouer des contacts, entre eux ou avec des professionnels qui pourront les accompagner dans la suite de leur parcours.
Le Panorama représente un engagement fort de la Ville de Bourges à l’égard des jeunes artistes et conforte la vocation prospective incarnée par Les découvertes, dispositif du « Printemps de Bourges ». Organisé au Pavillon d’Auron le Panorama disposera de moyens conséquents pour sa seconde édition. Outre un espace de 2 500 m2 pour la présentation des artistes sélectionnés, l’organisation d’une journée professionnelle et d’un voyage de presse, la ville offre cette année à chaque participant une bourse pour couvrir ses frais de production et d’exposition.

Attentif à présenter les œuvres dont l’exigence et la radicalité semblent le mieux promettre l’émergence d’une vision nouvelle, le Panorama de la jeune création à Bourges se donne pour ambition, en complément de quelques rares manifestions du même type (Germinations Europe, Mulhouse 08), de jouer un rôle tout à fait déterminant en offrant une première situation de confrontation publique, hors des contraintes commerciales ou institutionnelles, aux artistes qui feront l’art de demain.

This is the ninth year Media Forum is organized as part of the Moscow International Film Festival. The role of new media in audiovisual art and culture received due recognition and Media Forum was immediately introduced into the official program of MIFF. The programme was started in 2000 at an initiative of Aleksei Isaev, a well-known Russian media artist, curator and theorist of the new media, who founded and directed the Moscow MediaArtLab Centre.

Media Forum as action is an exchange of ideas, infusion of new forces into contemporary culture and vice versa. It is an attempt to demonsrtate the logic of new thought and new communications. At the moment it is inside media culture that new ideas go through trial and approbation, ideas that cannot be realized in contemporary art context.

Appel à candidature "Offre de Temps pour l'art" (pour les artistes du Bas-rhin)

Le syndicat potentiel, en lien avec le Conseil général du Bas-Rhin lance en 2008 une opération nommée Offre de temps pour l'art dont l'objet est de soutenir et de promouvoir le travail des artistes plasticiens du département en situation précaire étant ou ayant été au RMI.

L'action Offre de temps pour l'art consiste principalement en :

- L'édition d'un catalogue regroupant l'ensemble des candidats qui ont répondu aux critères de sélection.
- L'activation d'un protocole permettant à tout un chacun (entreprises, collectivités publiques, particuliers) d'offrir des temps rémunérés aux artistes de leur choix.
- La sélection parmi les candidatures de 5 lauréats qui bénéficieront d'une bourse de 6000 euros et d'une exposition a l'hôtel du Département en septembre 2008.

FêtArt - Association française reconnue d’intérêt général,
FetArt a pour objectif de faire la promotion des photographes émergents en leur donnant une première occasion d’exposer leur travail à travers l’organisation d’évènements culturels. Depuis sa création en 2005, l’association a organisé plus de 25 expositions et présenté une centaine d’artistes. Véritable tremplin pour lancer la carrière des artistes, FetArt a permis de révéler de nombreux talents et de leur fournir un premier ancrage dans le marché de l’art.
- Exposition collective
- Thème : l’Europe
- À l’occasion de l’édition 2008 du mois de la photo à Paris consacrée à « La photographie européenne : entre traditions et mutations », FetArt organise à Paris, au mois de nombre 2008, une exposition collective de jeunes photographes européens autour du thème « Circulations», dans 3 lieux parisiens. Il s’agit de permettre à des artistes de confronter leur regard sur l’Europe et d’exprimer leurs identités culturelles au sein d‘une identité commune « l’Europe ».
A travers cette exposition, il s’agit de permettre la construction d’un véritable réseau européen de jeunes photographes et surtout de favoriser une meilleure reconnaissance internationale de ces artistes.

- Sélection -
-Les photographes seront choisis par le jury sur la qualité de leur pratique artistique et la pertinence de leur travail par rapport à la thématique et la vision personnelle qu’ils expriment. Cette sélection donnera lieu à une exposition collective au cours du mois de novembre 2008 dans un ou plusieurs lieux parisiens.
-Les candidats retenus seront prévenus par mail exclusivement courant juin 2008.
-Le comité de sélection sera composé de professionnels du monde de l’image et de l’art. Il désignera parmi les dossiers reçus, un maximum de 30 photographes sélectionnés pour l’exposition. La décision sera souveraine et sans appel (le jury se réserve le droit d’effectuer éventuellement un choix dans la série d’images proposées en fonction des espaces disponibles pour l’exposition).

The International Guerrilla Video Festival (IGVFest) is a mobile festival integrating video art with the urban and social environment. Removing the technologically complex medium of video out of the institutional situation, it is re-positioned as a approachable medium in the public domain. The works engage and reflect the unique historical and interpersonal context of each site in the festival. Touring to different sites each evening the videos are projected directly onto the facades of buildings, monuments and temporary structures. The International Guerrilla Video Festival Milan 2008 will be held 12-14 July in 3 distinct areas of the city: Isola, Chinatown and Corso Como. The IGVFest is open to new single channel videos based on the specific conditions of the areas where the festival will be held. Artists who are active in the areas and artists elsewhere addressing similar situations in a different context are invited to apply. Artists are invited to work directly on site where the festival will be shown or elsewhere with similar conditions in other cities.

The 2009 WCA International Video Shorts Festival seeks to find and exhibit challenging and visionary video short works that are original in their use of the medium.
OVERVIEW
The 2009 WCA International Video Festival accepts video entries of all lengths under 15 minutes, and genres: experimental, narrative, documentary, animation, collage. WCA accepts pieces produced in any year. Video entries must be created by women videographers, or directed/co-directed by women.
The Video Shorts Screening will be in DVD format. PREVIEW FORMAT: 5 min. DVD format. (cued to start) EXHIBITION FORMAT: DVD / mini DV tape preferred

International ArtExpo is selecting all interesting video/short.films to include in the next 2008 Exhibitions:

Urban identity - Video Art & Architecture event at Digital Art Expo International in the Gallery Row area of Downtown Los Angeles (August 14-16, 2008). The event involves exhibits by area galleries, video installations at the Regent Theatre, circuit bender street music, street projections, video screenings at theaters and galleries. The event is in collaboration with the Downtown Los Angeles Film Festival and SIGGRAPH, a huge computer graphics and art convention at the L.A. Convention Center. The deadline for applications is June 30, 2008.

The number of works with you can participate is unlimited. All works must be on DVD (PAL or NTSC), no matter what the original source medium. DISONANCIAS is pleased to announce the call for proposals from international artists who wish to participate in its third annual edition.

DISONANCIAS is a platform that promotes relationships between artists and companies, research centres or public organisations in order to foster innovation in all its aspects and transmit to society the importance of developing creative environments.

Artists are asked to develop, in collaboration with a team, a prototype, procedure or idea based on a framework predefined by one of the participating entities: either companies (BULTZAKI, EZARRI, PROIEK, SEGUROS LAGUN ARO), public organisations (Vitoria-Gasteiz City Council, EiTB) or universities (Tecnologico Fundacion Deusto, Mondragon Unibertsitatea).

The concepts they wish to investigate can be grouped within three main fields:

- investigations related to urban dynamics: social and commercial dynamics for the city centre (Vitoria-Gasteiz City Council), an encounter point based on urban furniture and on the concept of urbanotics (PROIEK), and new uses for a branch network (SEGUROS LAGUN ARO).
- related to the development of creative environments, in this case for the different users of a Faculty of Engineering (Mondragon Unibertsitatea).
- investigations related to technological or material application/developments: visualisation of Artificial Intelligence techniques (Tecnologico Fundacion Deusto - S3Lab), new applications for recycled glass or glass mosaics (EZARRI), new applications for wire and metal tube (BULTZAKI).

In the special case of EiTB (Basque Radio and Television), the artist(s) is requested to research into the documentary format using documentation reflecting the processes developed within the
collaboration projects.

The submitted proposals will be examined by a jury including Jorge Luis Marzo and Juan Freire. The pre-selected artists will be informed in mid-July, and will get a chance to defend their project during a conference call with the hosting organisation. The final decision will be taken by the hosting entities and will be communicated at the end of August 2008.

DISONANCIAS gives priority to the involvement of artists who: are committed to their environment; feel that art can be a factor of social transformation; are interested in stimulating interaction between different cultural and social systems; and who can contribute to collective work.

The call is open to artists working with any type of medium and in any discipline, either individually or as a group. There is no limit on age, nationality or place of residence.

The selected artists or group of artists will each receive a minimum amount of 10,000 euros – up to 12,000 euros, depending on their geographical origin - as a fee for the work carried out and for their travel and accommodation costs. Costs that may be generated in the development of the research work and associated with external companies and suppliers should not exceed 6,000 euros + VAT, and they should be previously approved by the hosting entity.

The DRHA (Digital Resources in the Humanities and Arts) conference is
held annually at various academic venues throughout the UK. The
conference theme this year is to promote discussion around new
collaborative environments, collective knowledge and redefining
disciplinary boundaries. The conference, hosted by the University of
Cambridge with its fantastic choice of conference venues will take place
from Sunday 14th September to Wednesday 17th September

The aim of the conference is to:
* Establish a site for mutually creative exchanges of knowledge.
* Promote discussion around new collaborative environments and
collective knowledge.
* Encourage and celebrate the connections and tensions within the
liminal spaces that exist between the Arts and Humanities.
* Redefine disciplinary boundaries.
* Create a forum for debate around notions of the 'solitary' and
the collaborative across the Arts and Humanities.
* Explore the impact of the Arts and Humanities on ICT: design and
narrative structures and visa versa.

There will be a variety of sessions concerned with the above but also
with a particular emphasis on interdisciplinary collaboration and
theorising around practice. There will also be various installations and
performances focussing on the same theme.

Keynote talks will be given by our plenary speakers who we are pleased
to announce are Sher Doruff, Research Fellow (Art, Research and Theory
Lectoraat) and Mentor at the Amsterdam School for the Arts, Alan Liu,
Professor of English, University of California Santa Barbara and Sally
Jane Norman, Director of the Culture Lab, Newcastle University.

In addition to this, there will be various round table discussions
together with a panel relating to 'Second Life' and a special forum
'Engaging research and performance through pervasive and locative arts
projects' led by Steve Benford, Professor of Collaborative Computing,
University of Nottingham. Also planned is the opportunity for a more
immediate and informal presentation of work in our 'Quickfire' style
events. Whether papers, performance or other, all proposals should
reflect the critical engagement at the heart of DRHA.

Cambridge's venues range from the traditional to the contemporary all
situated within walking distance of central departments, museums and
galleries. The conference will be based around Cambridge University's

a 'black box' performance space, to cater for this year's parallel
programming and performances.

The DOCAM (Documentation and Conservation of the Media Arts Heritage) Research
Alliance and Media@McGill invite submissions of abstracts for the presentation
of papers at the inaugural Media in Motion Symposium. The interdisciplinary
event aims to bring together graduate students across the sciences, humanities,
and social sciences in order to explore the many facets of media art
preservation. To that end, submissions related to the conference theme, ”The
Challenge of Preservation in the Digital Age,” are strongly encouraged.
Possible topics include, but are not limited to:

- Archival Practices
- Challenges of Audio, Film, Video, and Digital Media Preservation
- Cultural Influences, Impacts, and Considerations
- Cultural Property Law
- Digital Preservation and Cultural Memory
- Digitization of the Humanities
- Effects on Artistic Practices

- Future Trends and Directions

As the symposium will be held in conjunction with the Annual International
DOCAM Summit (on October 30-31, 2008, at McGill University), preference will be
given to proposals that address issues related to the alliance’s activities.

In 2004, SoundLAB was launched as a corporate part of the global networking project [R][R][F]200x—>XP - http://rrf200x.newmediafest.org

but started soon also acting individually as an environment for sonic art.

Edition IV was launched in October 2006 under the title
“memoryscapes” - incorporating 144 artists and 235 soundart pieces

For its 6th edition, planned to be launched in March 2009, SoundLAB would like to demonstrate the power of sound as a tool for artistic creations, and is therefore looking for soundart works, or more precise, sound compositions which represent a real challenge for human imagination.

Regulations for
sound compositions to be submitted

1. Theme: soundPOOL - sound compositions a challenge for imagination
2.. one single piece of soundart may be submitted
3. exclusive soundformat: mp3
4. duration: minimum 3 min, maximum 15 min
5. each submission has to accompanied by an artists statement
about the creation of the sound work, used tools & concepts
6. the artist/author keeps all rights on the submitted soundwork and statement
7. the work to be submitted has to be posted on a webpage for download,
including artist bio and statement
7a. –> if no own website is available, alternatively the film can be submitted via an upload/download service, for instance, SENDSPACE - http://www.sendspace.com - a free service, after upload send the link, and CologneOFF downloads the film then.
8. the complete entry form including the requested info material
has to be submitted via email
